Neptune Aviation, based in the US state of Montana, has operated a fleet of firefighting aircraft since 1993, which are used to fight forest fires in the USA and Canada. Instead of just relying on disused military aircraft, such as the Lockheed P-2 sea reconnaissance aircraft, some of which date from the 1940s or 1950s, Neptune Aviation was instrumental in the development and certification of the four-engine BAe 146 as a fire-fighting aircraft. Since 2017, the fleet has consisted entirely of the passenger aircraft developed in Great Britain.
