With the Tu-22M, the Tupolev design bureau first attempted a design with pivoting wings in the 1960s. Above all, they should ensure good take-off and landing characteristics, economical cruising flight and, if necessary, supersonic flight regimes with wings swiveled back. The Tu-22M3, which first flew in June 1977, became the main series version. The 43rd Center for Combat Training and Conversion Training in Dyagilevo still exists for complex training on the bomber. A number of Tu-22M3s, including RF-34075, are on site along with some other aircraft for the purposes of training candidates for service in the Bomber Air Force.
