In 1973, the Romanian airline received its first of a total of five IL-62 long-haul jets. It was not until 1999 that the last IL-62M was decommissioned. The 60 aircraft were active late in the 1970s, TAROM had the largest fleet of all Eastern Bloc countries after Aeroflot.
